Top 10 Engagement Session Locations in Columbus Ohio:
Outdoor Park Locations:
- Inniswood Metro Gardens
A beautiful park with lots of roses, greenery, pines, and winding trails through the woods.
This is one of my favorite versatile outdoor parks because in the summer it is full of beautiful blooms, but then in the winter you still get some deep greens from the pines.
Perfect Season: Great all year round.
2. Jeffrey Park Mansion
If you’re looking for a more structured backdrop that isn’t modern then Jeffrey Mansion is perfect!
The setting of the mansion is a beautiful orange brick and is great for a dressed up occasion while still being outdoors.
It offers the perimeter of the building and the surrounding park for both beautiful architecture and greenery.
Perfect Season: Any! In the spring and summer you’ll have lush greens, the fall foliage is stunning, and even covered in snow it makes for a magical winter wonderland.
3. Park of Roses
The spot to go to if you’re wanting beautiful floral backdrops ranging from reds, pinks, oranges, whites, and more.
With gardens all over this gives the ultimate nature backdrop in the heart of the city.
Perfect Season: Late spring through early fall. For roses specifically go during summer.
4. Highbanks Metro Park
This park does not offer a lot of different amenities to include during your session, making it a great spot for one cohesive area without a lot of distractions.
Take a hike together, dance through the fields at sunset, or bring your pets for a fun family day!
Perfect Season: Late spring to early fall for greenery and fall colors.
5. Franklin Park Conservatory
Obviously the gardens surrounding the Franklin Park Conservatory make for a beautiful location.
Offering foliage, gardens, bridges, and ponds.
Perfect Season: Late spring to early fall for greenery and fall colors.
Downtown City Locations:
6. German Village
If you’re looking for a quaint, cozy, brick road vibe for your engagement session then German Village is perfect.
In addition, this is a location where you can park and walk to lots of different areas including: Frank Fetch Park and Lindey’s (my favorite backdrop).
Perfect Season: All seasons. Strut the streets in the summer with Jeni’s Ice cream or snag a warm cup of coffee in the winter.
7. Columbus Museum of Art
The Columbus Museum of Art offers a wide backdrop from industrial modern to timeless vintage galleries.
In addition, It’s a perfect spot if you and your partner love art and you can even extend your stay into a date day!
Perfect Season: Any! Just be sure to check their event calendar to confirm there are no restrictions for when you want to go. Additionally, it’s great for colder seasons!
8. Scioto Mile
If you’re looking for a more downtown vibe that mixes the skyline, inner city, and a little class then this is the spot for you.
Once you park you can walk down the path by the river for the city skyline backdrop and then go up the streets towards the Leveque tower for some fun classy vibes, giving you a well rounded city experience.
Perfect season: Spring through fall. You can do also winter depending on how cold it gets.
9. Downtown Hotel
If you’re coming to Columbus or perhaps ready for a night away, incorporating your hotel into your engagement session is a great way to add some extra fun.
In addition, hotel photos can include getting food, champagne, luggage carts, and elevator shots.
However, please note that the hotel may not allow you to take photos unless you’re a guest.
Perfect Season: All year round.
Least But Not Least – Number 10:
10. A Barcade
Maybe the park or the modern skyscrapers of downtown aren’t your vibe?
Perhaps you want your session to reflect your favorite date!
Thinking outside of the box and doing something interactive like a barcade is a great way to add your personal touch while creating a fun date day!
Some Columbus barcades include: Pins Mechanical Co. and 16-Bit Bar + Arcade
Perfect Season: Any. Cheers!
Top 10 Engagement Session Locations in Columbus Ohio: Summary
In conclusion, there is no right or wrong way to plan your engagement session.
Above all, my biggest recommendation would be to consider these questions:
- Do we want it to feel like our day-to-day dates?
- Is there a physical purpose to this shoot? (E.g. wedding invitations)
- What makes us feel most ourselves?
- Do we want to go all out and dress up?
- Or perhaps keep it low key and include our pets?
- Are we comfortable being photographed in a public place?
- Or maybe we prefer a private and less populated area for this?
Once you take a moment to sit down and discuss the why’s and when’s for the foundation of your engagement shoot you can begin to think about the where.
In addition, from a photography point of view, an engagement session is the perfect opportunity to get to know a potential wedding photographer. You can get a feel for how they work, how you click with them, and their overall vibe!
