Tre Cime di Lavaredo Hike

Tre Cime di Lavaredo, also known as Drei Zinnen, is part of the Sexten Dolomites in northeastern Italy and consists of three dramatic peaks.
I didn’t expect Tre Cime to excite me as much as it did. I was blown away by the surrounding rolling hills, cows grazing on the mountains, and the echos of the bells chiming through the quiet clouds (literally, you feel very high up).
The most common hike around Tre Cime is the Tre Cime di Lavaredo loop hike. Starting from Rifugio, this takes approximately 3.5 to 4 hours to complete, and circles around three distinct limestone peaks.
Alternatively, if you’re not hiking, you can enjoy views of the Tre Cime di Lavaredo from the Rifugio area.
Cadini di Misurina Hike

Another iconic viewpoint accessible from the Rifugio Auronzo is Cadini di Misurina. This was one of the sights I was most excited to see, and the jagged peaks are nothing short of extraordinary.
How to Hike Cadini di Misurina from Tre Cime
The trail to Cadini di Misurina’s iconic viewpoint begins at the Rifugio Auronzo trailhead, right next to the Tre Cime trail. This hike is just over 2 miles roundtrip and is moderately challenging.
At the viewpoint, expect a line of people waiting their turn walk out onto the narrow peak. Each person or group takes turns hiking out for photos.
You can find this exact trail on All Trails, along with a few other longer routes you can explore around the area.

How to Get to Rifugio Auronzo
The toll road is typically open late May until late October and requires a reservation, costing around 40 euros.
- By Car: I recommend driving there. Although the parking lot is large, try to arrive early or late to secure a spot.
- By Bus: Shuttle bus 444 runs from Toblach/Dubbiaco to Rifugio. Alternatively, if you’re coming from Cortina, take a bus to Misurina and then transfer to Toblach.

Where to Stay Near Tre Cime di Lavaredo
There are a few different towns to stay in near Rifugio Auronzo. I personally stayed in Cortina d’Ampezzo at Hotel Corona as a base for exploring multiple Dolomites areas, as it was easy to drive everywhere from there.
Here is the driving times between nearby towns and Rifugio:
- Cortina d’Ampezzo – 50 minutes
- Toblach / Dubbiaco – 50 minutes
- Lake Misurina – 28 minutes

Additionally, you can stay on site at Rifugio Auronzo, which offers lodging and dining accommodations with the luxury of stepping out directly into the heart of Tre Cime.
